It’s always nice having a peripheral device that performs extra tasks. This is what YouTube is going for with this feature. Usually, when using YouTube TV, you’d be able to interact with content by searching for the content separately and interacting.
However, you can now use your phone as a second screen with YouTube TV
The abovementioned method works, but YouTube decided to refine that process just a bit. Now, when you’re using YouTube TV, you’ll be able to connect your phone to the app on the TV. This way, your phone and the YouTube TV app are synched. When you do that, you’ll be able to interact with the playing content directly with your phone. This includes commenting on the content, rating, shopping, donating, etc. You won’t need to go and hunt down the content on your phone to avoid using the TV interface. Wanting to interact with YouTube content using your mobile device shouldn’t be that much of an alien idea. Engadget notes that, according to Nielsen Data,88% of people tend to use a phone or tablet while watching. This should come as no shock. Also, who wants to interrupt what they’re watching just to post a comment or sift through the merch? Your phone is most likely faster at doing that than the TV. Also, the tap & Swipe interface of mobile devices just makes the whole process quicker and easier. If you’re excited about this feature, it’s rolling out now. You should check your respective streaming devices or TVs for the update to the YouTube TV app. If you don’t find the update, then you should wait just a few days.
