Yes. Users will finally be able to transfer their WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS. This also includes the ability to transfer all voice notes, media files, and conversations. This feature was long requested by users as transferring WhatsApp data between two devices running the same OS is smooth as butter. However, it becomes a pain and simply impossible to transfer your chats between iPhone and Android devices. Because using WhatsApp’s cloud backup feature on Android saves the backup on Google Drive. Whereas, iOS chat backup is stored in iCloud, making it officially impossible to transfer between the two different OS. Thankfully, during the recently concluded Samsung Unpacked event, this WhatsApp transfer feature will first arrive for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. So, iOS thinking to switch over to Android have these two options to move over to along with their WhatsApp chat history.
Users cannot transfer chat history between iOS and Android using the internet
One stranger thing though about this feature is users won’t be able to send their WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android or vice versa using the internet. They have to make use of the lighting to USB-C cable to accomplish this task. Moreover, if a user has already transferred between iOS and Android in the past, and has two separate cloud backups, then this feature won’t work for them. Notably, in such a scenario, WhatsApp won’t be merging both the cloud backups in one. As per The Verge, WhatsApp says if you use this to migrate chat history and then back it up, it will overwrite any existing backups that you have. As of now, only Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are the Android phones that can transfer WhatsApp chats to iOS devices and vice versa. In the coming weeks, Samsung plans to bring this feature to all devices running Android 10 or above. As already mentioned, Samsung has not shared any information on the exact date when the WhatsApp chat feature would arrive for non-Samsung Android phones. It will be interesting to see how long other brand Android phone users will have to wait to enjoy the seamless WhatsApp chat history transfer feature to iOS.
