Verified status on Twitter won’t be free, it will cost you $8 a month
So, regardless of whether you’re already verified or not, you’ll have to pay up in order to have that verified badge next to your name. Elon Musk announced all this via his Twitter handle. He did note that this price is for the US, while the price will be “adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity”. You’re not only getting a verified badge with this, though. Elon Musk did announce some other perks that will be included. Those include priority in replies, mentions, and search. He sees this as the key to battle spam and scam content. Twitter Blue will also allow you to post long video and audio content, and you’ll get half as many ads. Also, he said that Twitter will ensure a paywall bypass for publishers who are willing to work with the company.
Elon Musk believes this will ensure a revenue stream to reward content creators
The billionaire said that this will give Twitter a “revenue stream to reward content creators”. The last piece of news he shared concerns a secondary tag below the name that some accounts will get. This goes for public figures, as is the case with politicians already. Earlier reports suggested that Twitter will charge $20 for the subscription, but that, luckily, is not true. For those of you who are out of the loop, Twitter Blue currently costs $4.99-a-month, and comes with a different set of perks. Many people considered Twitter’s verification policy to be horrible. Many public figures didn’t get a chance to get verified in that system, and this will mark the complete opposite of that. Basically anyone who pays up will get a verified status. It remains to be seen how will this pan out, as Elon Musk came up with this plan real quick.
