While Android 12 was suspected to launch soon for Pixel phones, an exact date wasn’t exactly known. The launch of Android 12 brings a rather significant set of changes. Including a fresh design with more colorful elements in the form of Material You. Material You alone is probably the biggest change people will see when Android 12 hits their devices. But it’s certainly not the only change. Google is also improving the privacy and security of the software.
Android 12 will launch for all current Pixel phones today
The update to Android won’t be hitting every single current Pixel device at the same time. But it is starting to roll out to all current Pixel phones today. So if you have one of those, make sure to check whether or not you have the update available to you. You can do this by heading to settings, then system, then system update and tap to check for an update to see if one is available. The Pixel phones that Android 12 is rolling out to includes the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL, the Pixel 4a and 4a 5G, and the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro of course come with Android 12 already installed out of the box.
The update isn’t very large if you’re already on the beta
If your Pixel phone is already running the latest Android 12 beta, then the update to the official stable build won’t be that big. It runs about 4MB, so the download and installation should only take a few minutes. Outside of Pixel devices, most other phones aren’t likely to have Android 12 for a little bit. Though it all depends on the manufacturers. There’s a good chance that any manufacturer who participated in the beta will have updates ready soon however. So if your phone was one of those that was supported, be sure to check periodically to see when your update is available.
