If you were wondering about the size of the Steam Deck, wonder no more. While there have been plenty of images of the device already, a thread on Twitter from user Cary Golomb puts it into perspective just how big the device is. By comparing it to the sizes of other handheld gaming hardware.
The Steam Deck size is noticeably bigger than other gaming handhelds
When we say this thing is big, we mean it’s big. Seriously, just check out the size of this thing compared to a Nintendo Switch OLED. Which is probably one of the biggest gaming portables currently available. Judging by Cary’s shared image, the Steam Deck is probably 20% – 30% bigger than Nintendo Switch OLED. Which doesn’t sound like much until you see it. Oddly enough though, the overall footprint of something like the SEGA GameGear is not much smaller. You might expect it to be, but it takes up almost as much space as the Switch OLED lengthwise. The main difference is that the Switch OLED has a much larger display.
It spans the width of two controllers
Need more perspective? How about seeing the Steam Deck nearly match the width of two game controllers side by side? We’re talking two full-sized controllers. Specifically the Steam Controller and an Xbox Wireless Controller. Although, most full-size controllers are roughly the same size. So if you have two laying around, put them side by side and that should give you a good idea of how wide the Steam Deck will be when you hold it. If that isn’t enough to help envision the massiveness of it, you can also just about fit an entire PS Vita inside the surface area of the Steam Deck’s display. There’s even a comparison between other similar devices like the GPD Win 3. Which is another gaming PC designed as a portable handheld. All-in-all, the Steam Deck is big. But at the end of the day that just means more screen space and room for your hands and fingers.
