In case you don’t know, Google just recently launched Android 13 to the masses, so the platform upgrade is going to be making its way to different devices as the months go by. We can expect Samsung to be among the first to push the update to its phones. That being said, there are those companies that take their sweet time updating their phones, and it seems like Nothing will be one of those companies. Based on a report from Android Authority, we shouldn’t expect the update for a while.
The Nothing Phone (1) won’t get Android 13 this year
In a statement to Android Authority, Nothing said that it’s “always working hard to improve the Phone(1) user experience.” Thus, “[Android 13] this will be launching for Phone(1) users in the first half of 2023.” Saying that it will launch in the first half of next year isn’t quite what people want to hear at this point. Right now, it’s August 2022, and the company is basically saying that the update, at the very latest, could hit phones by July 2023. At that point, we’re going to be waist-deep in Android 14 news. Now, July 2023 is the worst-case scenario, admittedly. For all we know, the phone could get a surprise update in the first quarter. Saying that Android 13 will land on the Nothing Phone(1) in the first half of the year may just mean that the projection is very unclear. We also can’t overlook this fact: Nothing is most likely working with a much smaller team. The company might not have an army of developers hammering away at the keys. We don’t know how many people are working on the software; remember, Nothing is still a new company. We’ll just have to wait for more information on the update in the coming months.
