Android 12 started rolling out to the Sony Xperia 1 II & Xperia PRO
Sony will hopefully expand the reach of this update soon, though. Along with Android 12, both smartphones are also getting the January 2022 Android security patch. Needless to say, that is not the latest security patch available. The Xperia 1 II is getting the update in form of software version 58.2.A.0.899, while the Xperia PRO is getting software version 58.2.A.0.899. The changelog is not yet available, so we can’t talk about exact changes. You should get all the Android 12 features, though. Sony doesn’t exactly have a heavy Android skin or anything of the sort, but it will be different than on other phones, of course. Do note that the global single-SIM variant of the Xperia 1 II is the ‘XQ-AT51’. The Xperia PRO’s dual SIM version (XQ-AQ62) in the US is getting the update as well.
The update is rolling out in stages, as per usual
As is usually the case, these updates are rolling out in stages. So, they won’t land on all phones at the same time. Your device will notify you once the update is ready, or you can manually check for it. You can do that from the Settings, if you go to the Software update section. Do note that you should have at least 60-percent of battery charge on your phone, just to be sure to avoid any issues during the installation. Sony will hopefully start pushing Android 12 to other variants of the device, and in more regions when the Xperia PRO is concerned.
