The company initially announced the Genesis Mini 2 for the Japanese market back in June. Although in Japan it’ll be going under the name Mega Drive Mini 2. The two versions of the console will be virtually the same except for a few design adjustments. Namely the different branding and the altered color scheme of a few of the components. Other than that though, everything is the same. The same games, the same hardware, etc. Speaking of games, the Genesis Mini 2 will launch with over 50 classic titles from the Genesis and SEGA CD consoles. Only just under half of the total lineup has been revealed so far however.
The SEGA Genesis Mini 2 hits the U.S. in October
In addition to confirming the U.S. launch, SEGA also confirmed the Genesis Mini 2 U.S. release date. The console will be landing in the U.S. and other parts of North America on October 27. Which just so happens to be the same day that the console launches in Japan. Which is quite a high price for this particular machine. For reference, the original SEGA Genesis Mini launched in 2019 at a price of $79.99. And while that doesn’t mean SEGA would automatically price the second console at the same amount, a nearly $50 increase is a bit surprising. SEGA Genesis Mini 2
