Samsung announces Solve for Tomorrow 2023
Samsung launched the Solve for Tomorrow contest in 2010. Over the past 12 editions, the company has awarded $20 million in technology and classroom materials to more than 3,500 public schools in the US. The idea is to “encourage innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and teamwork” to address various issues that our society is facing. Students participating in the 2023 edition of the contest get guidance and hands-on experience that will improve their STEM toolkit for higher education. Finalists also get one-on-one project mentorship from Samsung employees. All teachers, meanwhile, will receive free professional development opportunities from the Korean firm. The benefits include access to education platforms like Teacher Academy and Nepris. On top of that, Samsung will select winners in various categories through this contest. 300 state finalist schools will receive a $2,500 prize package each. The company will pick one winner for each of the 50 states and award them a Samsung Video Kit to assist in video development and a $12,000 prize package in Samsung technology and supplies for classroom use. One out of the 50 state winners will also get a Sustainability Innovation Award worth an additional $50,000. Samsung will then pick ten national finalists to participate in a pitch event where they will present their STEM-based project to a panel of judges. The company will select three winners from the ten national finalists. They will receive prizes worth $100,000 each in Samsung products and classroom resources. The other seven national finalists will receive a $50,000 prize package. Online public voting will also determine a Community Choice Winner from the ten national finalists, while Samsung employees will select an Employee Choice Winner. Both these winners will add another $10,000 to their Solve for Tomorrow 2023 winnings.
Samsung also launched Climate Week
In addition to announcing the Solve for Tomorrow 2023, Samsung Thursday also launched Climate Week. This initiative will run through Sunday, September 25, and will raise awareness of environmental protection.
