The manufacturer reportedly wants to produce up to 30 million parts/components meant for the Galaxy S22 lineup. According to The Elec (via SamMobile), these components can prepare up to 20 million units of the Galaxy S22 lineup. A bulk of these will be the entry-level Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. By contrast, Samsung was shipping over 30 million units of the Galaxy S lineup per year until 2019. But as The Elec points out, an estimate of 20 million shipments of the Galaxy S22 series is still an upgrade over last year’s Galaxy S21 series. This is likely due to Samsung’s expectation that the smartphone market would recover some lost ground this year.

Samsung Electronics CEO Han Jong-Hee traveled to Vietnam this week to inspect the production lines in the region. For context, COVID lockdowns between May to September last year hit the company’s production lines in Vietnam. Some reports claim a few Samsung vendors had their workers sleep at the factories as they were unable to travel. The inclusion of the S Pen stylus on the Galaxy S22 Ultra could be a contributing factor in the improved expectations. The rest of the hardware of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is pretty identical to its predecessor. So the inclusion of Samsung’s iconic stylus could turn the tide for the manufacturer. Moreover, this is Samsung’s first S Pen-equipped device since the Galaxy Note 20 in August 2020. While the Galaxy S21 Ultra was compatible with the S Pen stylus, it wasn’t bundled with the device. This meant that users had to purchase it separately. Moreover, the Galaxy S21 Ultra didn’t offer a silo for the S Pen, so customers had to resort to using a carrying case.
