After this update, the Nothing Phone (1) will show the battery percentage for connected AirPods. You can enable this feature from the Experimental features section in the Settings app. The device is getting some battery-related software improvements to show the battery status accurately. System animations have also been improved for a more fluid OS experience with less stutter. Additionally, Nothing says the thermal threshold has been adjusted to “better balance performance and temperature”. It should be the internal temperature level at which the system throttles the performance. The latest update for the Nothing Phone (1) also brings improvements to the audio quality when recording videos. But the company doesn’t make it clear if this applies to video recording from both front and rear cameras. Nothing OS 1.1.7 contains some bug fixes too. The company says it has resolved the problem of Whatsapp notifications becoming unresponsive on the lockscreen. It doesn’t detail other “general bug fixes” but confirms that the phone is getting the latest security patch. The November release from Google patches about 40 Android OS vulnerabilities. Nothing’s release notes for this update say “October/November security patch,” though. So users in some regions may be getting last month’s release. Nonetheless, if you’re using the first Nothing phone and haven’t received this update yet, you should be able to trigger it by navigating to Settings > System > System updates on your phone. The new firmware version is S1.1-221121-2306 (via). The OTA (over the air) package weighs slightly less than 80MB.
The Nothing Phone (1) will soon get the Android 13 update
The Nothing Phone (1) is the company’s only smartphone and it is taking its own sweet time to update it to Android 13. Nothing founder Carl Pei initially suggested that the new Android version may not arrive until next year. He later clarified that a beta release will begin later this year. And it appears we are getting closer to it, as Pei recently teased Nothings OS 1.5.0 based on Android 13. He said the early builds of Android 13 for the Nothing Phone (1) are working “much better than expected”. That should mean a nearing public beta. We will let you know once we have more information.
