The Filogic 880 Wi-Fi 7 chip supports penta-band 4×4 with a maximum speed of 36Gbps
MediaTek notes that Filogic 880 and Filogic 380 are among the first to bring Wi-Fi 7 to the market. The former brings an all-new application processor and network processing unit (NPU). It also offers optimum Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and packet processing performance. The chipmaker went on to say that the Filogic 880 is the “industry’s best router and gateway solution for operator, retail and enterprise markets.” Furthermore, the Filogic 880 can scale to penta-band 4×4, supporting maximum speeds of up to 36Gbps. It supports essential Wi-Fi 7 tech, including 4096-QAM, 320MHz, MRU, and MLO. MediaTek points out that this 6nm chip supports a variety of interfaces and peripherals, thus providing extensive customization options. The Filogic 380 is also a 6nm chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 (with LE Audio) to supported devices. This includes televisions, smartphones, tablets, set-top boxes, notebooks, and others. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 technologies like 4096-QAM, 320MHz, MRU, and MLO. The Filogic 380 can run on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands as per the manufacturer, with support for dual 2×2 radios. It can offer speeds of up to 5Gbps in one channel, MediaTek said (via XDA).
The chipmaker didn’t offer a release timeline for the new Filogic Wi-Fi 7 SoCs
The company will showcase the latest Filogic Wi-Fi 7 platform at Computex 2022 in Taiwan this week. There’s still no release date available for these SoCs. But we expect the chipmaker to offer more information during the event. Based on recent reports, the new range of Filogic Wi-Fi 7 chips could be available by 2023. “Our wireless connectivity solutions are designed to deliver the fastest performance using the most advanced technologies, and represent MediaTek’s commitment to drive Wi-Fi 7 adoption in a large number of new markets,” corporate VP and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity business at MediaTek, Alan Hsu said. “With Filogic 880 and Filogic 380, our customers can deliver fast, reliable and always-on connected experiences to meet the industry’s growing connectivity demands.”
