In fact, these are nearly Google’s least expensive Pixel phones to date. As the baseline price for the Pixel 6 is going to be less than all of the previous models. Save the ‘a’ series. That’s where the prices are a little bit surprising. This is Google’s first Pixel phone series that uses its own custom chipset. Google is also back to using more premium materials for the build, and it’s adding other upgraded components too. Like the brand new cameras. Something which the company hasn’t done, well… ever. All things which you’d think would increase the price.
The Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro have a starting cost of $599
With the cost starting at $599 for the Pixel 6, the price is lower than the Pixel 5. This is however for the baseline model which comes with 128GB of storage. Google will also offer a 256GB model that will cost more. As for the Pixel 6 Pro, prices start at $899. Which was the price for the base model of the Pixel 3XL and Pixel 4XL. The Pixel 6 Pro also has a third SKU. A model that comes with 512GB of storage in addition to the 128GB and 256GB versions. Of course, you’ll pay a significant amount more to get 512GB of capacity. But with how long you’ll be able to keep this phone due to its software support longevity, you’ll never want for storage space.
Is the price going to be worth it?
It’s hard to say with any certainty whether or not the device you get will be worth the price you pay. While there are some nice hardware upgrades, most people don’t know how the phone functions. And its worth is really a subjective thing anyway. From the outside looking in, however, it seems like these are going to be really good phones on paper. Even if these are only equal to the quality of past Pixel devices, the 5 years of updates alone may be a good enough reason to buy one. Especially with the Pixel 6 base model at $599.
