Let’s start off with the Pixel 7. It’s not a huge upgrade, physically, compared to the Pixel 6. The biggest change you’ll see is with the camera bar. It is no longer completely black. But instead it really points out the cameras on the back. The camera bar will be a different color depending on the color you get. The Snow and Obsidian colors get a silver color (the obsidian color gets a darker silver). While the Lemongrass gets a sort of warm gold look. It’s pretty cool, to be quite honest. And that’s a big change for me, coming from the leaks and the images that even Google showed off at I/O back in May. I was not a big fan of the change to the camera bar. But now seeing it in person, I kind of like it.
The Pixel 7 Pro gets the majority of the upgrades
Now, let’s talk about that Pixel 7 Pro. It actually gets the majority of the upgrades. Google gives the Pixel 7 Pro a 5x optical zoom level. However, with Super Res Zoom, you can go all the way up to 30X. Now in the hands on room, there was plenty of light, so testing this there wasn’t a great idea since that’s not really representative of the real world. Having used the Samsung phones with Space Zoom, I’m a bit skeptical about how good this is actually going to be. But also knowing how good Google’s Super Res Zoom has been in the past, I’m also excited to check it out. It’ll be interesting to see how it actually works out. Now in terms of looks, the Pro comes in the same Obsidian and Snow colors, as well as Hazel. Which might be the best color on a smartphone to date. It’s a darker green, with a warm gold-ish camera bar. And while it looks good in pictures, it looks even better in real life. The only real issue I have with the build here is that I do wish Google would go back to a frosted glass back like the Pixel 4. Or at least make it matte somehow. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are both glossy, and just in the few minutes I was handling them in the hands-on, they got a ton of fingerprints on them. Either way, you can keep it tuned to Android Headlines for the full reviews of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in the coming days.
