The widget already does a handful of actions like showing your weather, Calendar events, timers, and several more. It’s something that the company does kind of force on its customers. It’s on the home screen, and, like the Google search bar, it can’t be removed.
Google could add three new features to the At A Glance widget
This information was revealed via an APK deep-dive performed by 9To5Google. Thus, you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. The code for these features is in version S.21 of the Android System Intelligence, but it’s not activated. This means that Google could delete the code at any time. The first new feature is called Cross Device Timer. This feature would allow the widget to display a timer that’s on a Nest home smart display or smart speaker. So, you’ll see the timer counting down on your At A Glance widget. This could be great if you need to leave the room, but you still want to see the timer. The next feature will be useful if you’re an avid grocery delivery service user. The widget could show information like the story you ordered from when your order will be ready, when it’s picked up and when it was dropped off. The last feature was most recently discovered. This one could let you keep track of your ride when you use an app like Uber or Lyft. It will tell you how far out your ride is so you can keep track of the ride without having to open the app or unlock your phone. There’s no telling when these features will hit Pixel devices. For all we know, Google might not implement these features, so you’ll need to cross your fingers.
