The new update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra bear firmware version S90USQU2AVF7 for carrier-locked units and S90U1UEU2AVF7 for their unlocked counterparts. The OTA (over the air) rollout has already hit units on most wireless networks, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile. It should soon reach the remaining few networks as well. The official changelog for the latest update for the Galaxy S22 trio mentions stability improvements and security fixes. Unfortunately, as in the past, Samsung once again doesn’t go into detail about what kind of improvements users can expect, or if there are any notable user-facing changes here. Good luck finding new features, though. With Android 13-based One UI 5.0 not too far off, the company would reserve all the new features for the big Android update. The July SMR contains plenty of security fixes, though. Samsung has already revealed that the latest release patches 20 high severity and three critical Android OS vulnerabilities. Additionally, it fixes 41 SVEs (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) too. These are security flaws that only affect Samsung devices and not Android in general. Among the SVEs patched with the July release was a high-risk vulnerability in Knoxguard that allowed attackers to disable keyguard and bypass Knoxguard lock with a factory reset of the device. Samsung also patched several other Knox-related security flaws, as well as issues with App Lock, Messages, Contacts, Finder, and more.
The July security update hits the US Galaxy S22 units
All the security fixes for this month are now rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series in the US. As usual, OTA updates are released in batches and may take a few days before everyone gets it. You will be notified once the new software package becomes available for your phone. If you want to manually check for updates, you can do so from the Settings app. Simply go to the Software update section and tap on Download and install. If you don’t see any updates, repeat the steps a few days later or wait for the notification.
