The October SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the unlocked Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US comes with firmware version S90U1UES2AVI5. That for the carrier-locked models is S90USQS2AVI1. Apart from next month’s security patch, the phones aren’t getting anything else. Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to detail the content of the new SMR, so we can’t precisely tell what you’re getting. That said, these monthly security updates usually bring fixes for several dozen vulnerabilities found on Google’s version of Android OS as well as Samsung’s system. Some of these vulnerabilities are critical, potentially causing severe damage if exploited in the wild. Google is expected to publish its monthly security bulletin for October early next week. Samsung should follow soon after that. We will update you with the content of the October SMR for Galaxy devices once available. In the meantime, if you’re using a Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, or Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US, all of the fixes for October are already headed your way. Users living in other parts of the world can also now look forward to this update. As usual, the new OTA (over the air) firmware will roll out to all eligible users in batches. Samsung is nearing the stable Android 13 update for the Galaxy S22 series
This could be the last monthly security update with Android 12 for the Galaxy S22 series. Samsung is readying Android 13 for the phones, with its One UI 5.0 custom software on top. The company is beta testing the new Android version and has already released three beta builds. Rumors are that the stable rollout will begin in mid-October. If true, most Galaxy S22 users in the world would have likely made the jump to Android 13 by the time the November security patch is ready. We will let you know as and when we have more information about the stable One UI 5.0 update for the Galaxy S22 trio.
