The Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781B) is currently picking up the August security update in various European countries. The new firmware version is G781BXXU4CUH1 and it likely contains some user-facing changes or enhancements along with the vulnerability fixes for this month. You might remember that the LTE variant of this phone started picking up the latest SMR last week. The Galaxy S20 series also started receiving the new security patch last week. The update was first released to users in the US, which came as a surprise. Days later, the rollout has gone global. As of this writing, the 2020 Galaxy flagships are picking up the August update in Germany. More markets should join the party soon. This update bumps the firmware version of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra to G98xFXXU9DUH2. We don’t have a changelog handy, so it’s unclear if the devices are getting anything else apart from this month’s vulnerability fixes. Lastly, the Galaxy Tab S6 is also now joining the August security update party. The two-year-old flagship tablet has already picked up the new SMR in Samsung’s home country of South Korea as well as Germany. It should now be only a matter of time before the rollout goes global. The new firmware version is T865XXOS4CUG1 and it likely doesn’t include any new features or enhancements. Of course, you’re getting all the vulnerability fixes for this month though.
Samsung is rapidly pushing the August security update to its devices
Samsung was the first OEM to release the latest Android security update to its devices. It began the rollout late last month and has since updated several Galaxy smartphones and tablets to the new SMR. Few more are joining the party today. If you own any of the Galaxy S20 phones or the Galaxy Tab S6 tablet, you can be on the lookout for a new update in the coming days. As always, you can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install.
