Samsung first released the December security patch to the international versions of the Galaxy Fold last week. Both LTE and 5G variants of the phone have since picked up the latest SMR in several countries across the world. It’s now arriving for units in the US as well. The rollout has begun for unlocked variants and should soon hit carrier-locked units as well. This month’s security update contains fixes for several dozen vulnerabilities from both Samsung and Google. The companies describe a good few of them to be critical issues, so you would want to download the patch as early as possible. You can check for OTA updates by navigating to Settings » Software update on your phone and tapping on Download and install.
Galaxy Fold is eligible for the One UI 4.0 update
The December update doesn’t bring any new features or improvements to the Galaxy Fold. Well, this month’s update has been all about security patches for most Samsung phones. The Korean firm is hard at work on the Android 12-based One UI 4.0, which has tons of goodies on offer. So it’s understandable that the company doesn’t want to push any new features ahead of that big update. One UI 4.0 has already hit Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have also picked up the big update in some regions. However, it didn’t go very well and the company has stopped the rollout since. Nonetheless, the Galaxy Fold is also expected to receive the One UI 4.0 update. Launched with Android 9 Pie out of the box, the foldable has already received updates to Android 10 and Android 11. But Samsung now offers three generations of Android OS updates to its newer flagships. So it should get the Android 12 update as well. We will let you know once the rollout begins sometime next year.
