Most people know about good old Android, but fewer people know about the lightweight version of the software called Android Go. This is a version of Android that’s heavily stripped down to work on less powerful devices. With the lighter version of the operating system, there are lighter versions of certain apps. One of those apps was called Camera Go. This application had certain bells and whistles taken out so that it can work on cheaper devices.
Google changed Camera Go to Camera By Google
Now, that application is now getting a little rebrand by the company. A few months ago, back in May, Google dropped the Go from the name. That seemed weird, but now, the app went through another name change. Now the app is called Camera By Google. With this name change, Google slightly changed the icon. The color palette was changed a little bit, and the “Go” text was removed from the icon. Other than that, there don’t seem to be any additional changes. This isn’t an isolated incident, as the Gallery Go also dropped the Go from its title. Google could be in the process of rebranding its lightweight apps, but that’s just speculation at this point. It’s unclear what Google is planning on doing with these applications. As far as we can tell, Google isn’t changing anything with these applications other than their names. We’ll have to wait on some more developments to come from these apps to know for sure. Later on in the year, it’s possible that Google will deliver an update to Android Go. We’re currently on version 12. We’re expecting a version to release shortly after Android 13 exits beta. When that version comes out, we might see more changes to the lightweight apps.
