With the Mac Studio, you can get up to a 20-core CPU and up to 64-core GPU, for some really impressive performance while editing videos, creating music and much more. As if that was not enough, you can get up to 128GB of unified memory on the Mac Studio. With Apple Silicon, the memory or RAM is built on the processor. Which makes it faster than having separate memory, but it also makes it impossible to upgrade later on. There’s plenty of ports available on the front and back too. On the back, there’s four Thunderbolt 4 ports, an ethernet port, two USB-A ports, a HDMI and headphone port. The front has two more Thunderbolt 4 ports, as well as a SD card slot. Putting these on the front of the Mac Studio will make it easier for creators to transfer content from SD cards to their Mac for editing.
Studio Display will work with any Apple Silicon Mac
In addition to the Mac Studio today, Apple also announced the Studio Display. This is their first consumer-grade monitor in almost a decade. As the ProDisplay was really only for prosumers, since it was a $6,000 monitor. This new monitor is a 27-inch 5K Retina display, sporting 600 nits of brightness, and the P3 wide color gamut. It’s not as insane as the ProDisplay, where the colors are as perfect as they can get, making it a reference monitor. Interestingly, it does also offer up studio-quality mics, like all of the MacBook Pro models do. Unsurprising, there is a couple of stand options that will cost more. As well as a Nano-texture glass option. However, there is a stand included.
Pricing & Availability
Both the Mac Studio and Studio Display won’t be cheap. The Mac Studio starts at $1,999 with the M1 Max chip, or $3,999 with the M1 Ultra chip. The M1 Max starts out with 32GB of unified memory and 512GB SSD. While the M1 Ultra variant has 64GB of unified memory and 1TB SSD at that price. The Studio Display is going to be priced at $1,599. There is an adjustable stand in the box, but there are more options which will be an additional price. Both will be available starting on March 18, but are available to order now.
