As we have discussed here, One UI 4.0 brings tons of goodies to Samsung’s Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It packs all the new features and improvements that are part and parcel of Google’s Android 12. On top of that, we have a plethora of tweaks and add-ons from Samsung as well. From UI changes to improved stock apps and performance, there’s a lot to look forward to. Foldable devices such as the Galaxy Fold 5G get some exclusive features as well. Like most other Galaxy devices launched in 2019, the Galaxy Fold 5G also arrived with Android 9 Pie out of the box. Meaning, this is the last major Android OS update for the foldable. It will continue to receive security updates until late 2023 though. Speaking of security updates, the latest update for the Galaxy Fold 5G also brings the January 2022 Android security patch. The new SMR (security maintenance release) from Samsung contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. You can read a more detailed report here. Samsung has also released this month’s security patch to a few other Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S21 series.
The Galaxy Fold 5G joins Samsung’s Android 12 One UI 4.0 party
The Galaxy Fold 5G joins dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the One UI 4.0 party. Samsung began the rollout back in mid-November 2021, starting with the Galaxy S21 series. Since then, it has seeded the new One UI version to almost all its eligible flagship models, including the Galaxy Tab S7 series, as well as a few mid-rangers. A lot more will pick up the big update in the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, if you’re rocking the Galaxy Fold 5G and live in the UK, Android 12 could hit your phone anytime now if it hasn’t already. Users in other regions can also expect to get the new update pretty soon. As always, you will receive a notification for the OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available for your phone. You can also check for updates manually from the Settings > Software update menu.
