Android 12 update for the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US is rolling out with firmware version F916USQU2FVAB, SamMobile reports. As of this writing, the OTA (over the air) is available to devices on Sprint and T-Mobile networks. However, it should now be only a matter of time before units on other carrier networks in the country also start receiving the big Android update. The latest update for the US-bound Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with the February 2022 Android security patch. Samsung has recently confirmed that the new SMR (security maintenance release) brings fixes for over five dozen vulnerabilities from the company as well as Google. These include a handful of critical vulnerabilities that could potentially cause severe damages to users if exploited in the wild. But more importantly, the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 brings a plethora f new features and enhancements to the device. We have minor changes to the UI with Samsung offering a dynamic coloring feature for system UI elements and themes. There are also new privacy indicators, improved stock apps, improved dark mode, and many other changes here. You can refer to our full coverage of One UI 4.0 features for more. Foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will also receive some exclusive features that leverage the unique form factor and bigger inner screen for enhanced productivity. So there’s a lot to look forward to.
US-bound Galaxy Z Fold 2 also receives the Android 12 update
Samsung began rolling out the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in late December last year. As usual, it began with major international markets like South Korea and Europe. A month and a half later, the US-bound 2020 foldable from the Korean behemoth is also picking up the new Android and One UI versions. You probably know the drill as far as installing the new update is concerned. You will be notified of the OTA update as soon as it’s available for your Galaxy Z Fold 2. But you can also manually check for it by navigating to the Software update menu in the Settings app. Since it’s a major OS update, we advise you to create a backup of important files beforehand. You might also want to connect your foldable to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the OTA package.
